What should I know before buying Essential Oils?Even though essential oils are widely available, don’t spend your money on low-quality oils with adulterations or contaminations. You want to avoid contaminated or synthetic oils. Not All Essential Oils Are Created Equal Before you buy essential oils, know that not all oils are equal. Some companies use only pure, high-quality plants, while others use synthetic fillers instead of real plants. If a company doesn't provide information about the plants they use, where the plants come from, how the oils are made, or what testing processes they use, it could mean that they are skipping important steps in the production process. They might be using synthetic fillers to cut costs.
-
Is It Safe to Buy Cheap Essential Oils?Unfortunately it’s potentially harmful for you and your family. Cheaper oils are lower in quality and haven’t undergone the proper testing methods to ensure safety and purity. Other companies sometimes cut corners and sacrifice the safety of consumers. For example, doTERRA created the CPTG Certified Pure Tested Grade™ testing process to ensure that every single bottle of doTERRA essential oil is made without contaminants or adulteration.
-
How can you tell if Essential Oils Are Pure? Many essential oil companies claim to have “pure” oils; however, that doesn’t guarantee that their products are free from adulteration or synthetic fillers. Here are three ways that doTERRA ensure customers are getting pure, unadulterated oils. Three Ways doTERRA Ensures Essential Oil Purity Responsible sourcing: doTERRA sources oils from all over the world, using the best plants and skilled harvesters to ensure that every bottle of oil is of the highest quality. Thorough testing: doTERRA tests each batch to safeguard against any adulteration or contamination. Transparency: each bottle of doTERRA essential oil has a code on the bottom. You can use it to see the purity of your oil.
-
Are Essential Oils Safe?Yes, they are safe to use at home for yourself and with your family. High-quality essential oils go through extensive purity testing to ensure safety. Essential oils are a safe alternative to the products you see in a grocery store that contain synthetic toxins or harmful chemicals.
-
How to Use Pure Essential Oils Safely? Before you use essential oils, know that not all oils are created equal. Typically, high-quality essential oils go through rounds of rigorous testing to ensure the product is safe to use. Not all companies use thorough testing methods, and many essential oil distributors will use synthetic fillers that alter the efficacy of the oils. Only use essential oils that have been carefully produced and thoroughly tested to ensure safety for you and your family. For example, doTERRA essential oils are put through a meticulous testing process, where they are analyzed for harmful contaminants and other substances that could compromise the safety/quality. It’s important to choose high-quality essential oils that have been tested.
-
Can you have an Allergic Reaction to Essential Oils?CPTG Certified Pure Tested Grade™ essential oils are made up of aromatic compounds found in nature; they don’t contain protein molecules, so they don’t cause allergic reactions in the same way peanuts or eggs might. However, for some people, essential oils can bind to proteins in the skin and create a molecule that the body may recognize as an allergen, creating an allergic response. This process depends on the type and amount of oil being used, the person’s individual protein levels, and genetics. Signs of an essential oil sensitivity or allergic reaction include: Pain, swelling, or tenderness in the skin Skin irritation (such as itching, rash, or hives) Difficulty breathing Stomach upset
-
How to Handle Essential Oil Sensitivity? If you develop a sensitivity to a certain essential oil, you can make a few adjustments. Since sensitivity to an essential oil isn’t the same as an allergic reaction, you may still be able to use that oil with a different form of application. For example, if you experience sensitivity after using it internally, you may still be able to use it aromatically or topically. You can also try diluting the oil, or simply taking a smaller dose.
-
How Do I Know How Much Essential Oil to Use?In most cases, it’s best to start with a single drop and slowly increase the amount over time. The amount of essential oil you use will depend on your own health status and your experience with essential oils.
-
How to Dilute Essential Oils? Some people think that diluting an essential oil before applying will take away its benefits; however, dilution actually makes absorption into the skin easier—extending the benefits for even longer. By diluting an essential oil with a carrier oil, you slow the rate of evaporation, enhance absorption, and protect against sensitive/delicate skin. It’s never wrong to dilute oils, especially when using oils with a more potent chemistry, such as Cassia, Cinnamon, Clove, Oregano, Thyme, and others. When diluting essential oils, try starting with one drop of essential oil combined with one to five drops of a carrier oil, such as Fractionated Coconut Oil.
-
Is It Safe to Use Essential Oils on Children? While precautions should be taken when using oils around children, parents can be confident that it’s safe for children to use essential oils. Always give a child smaller doses of essential oils than you would an adult. Dilute before applying essential oil to a child’s skin. Start with one drop of oil and 10 drops of a carrier oil like Fractionated Coconut Oil. Try by applying to their feet first. This area isn’t sensitive

Make sure your pet can leave the room if desired. Dilute. Always dilute essential oils down to 1–2 percent (100 drops of a carrier oil for every one drop of essential oil) before topical application. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CUSTOMER AND A WELLNESS ADVOCATE?Doterra has 2 different types of memberships: Wholesale Customer and Wellness Advocate. Advocates make commissions off of people they sign up while customers just order products.
-
ARE THERE SALES QUOTAS FOR ADVOCATES?No. You can go at your own pace.
-
WHAT DOES IT COST TO BE A WELLNESS ADVOCATE?As little as $35 to have a membership. Since you need to know how to use the oils, you might as well go ahead and get a starter kit (more bang for your buck). It waives your membership fee and you get your products at a discounted rate for bundling them. In order to earn commissions, you need to order 100 PV worth of product per month through the Loyalty Rewards Program.
-
DO I HAVE TO COLLECT PAYMENTS OR DO DELIVERIES?No. Advocates simply introduce people to essential oils and get them to sign up for an account themselves. They get a great deal (25% off retail, plus the option to earn points through loyalty program). People order their own products, pay Doterra directly, and their products will be delivered to them through Doterra.
-
WHY SHOULD I BECOME AN ADVOCATE INSTEAD OF GETTING A 2ND JOB TO MAKE EXTRA MONEY?There are SO MANY benefits to having your own business. The tax write-offs alone make it worthwhile. Getting a 2nd job means HIGHER taxes, while having a business can reduce the taxes you pay. With a typical job, you are at the mercy of your employer. Your employer decides how many hours you can work, hourly wage, and WHEN you have to work. Having your own business means you have your own schedule. What hours and how much you earn is up to you. There is no ceiling on your earnings. You can earn more than the people above you too. Wellness Advocates create RESIDUAL income. This means that instead of trading hours for dollars (ie – work 1 hour, get paid x dollars). In Doterra, we grow a business and then get paid for the rest of our life.
-
WHY NETWORK MARKETING IS BETTER THAN STARTING A TRADITIONAL BUSINESS?The cost of entry is extremely low. You can get started for just the cost of your starter kit. You don’t have to invest in equipment, inventory, a store front, insurance, advertising, training materials, staff, etc. You don’t have to handle payments or payroll. Doterra handles all that.
-
WHAT ELSE DOES DOTERRA SELL BESIDES ESSENTIAL OILS?There are tons of other products besides essential oils. I’ve shifting most of my drug store/grocery store spending over to Doterra. They have toothpaste, skin care, cleaning products, shampoo, laundry soap, vitamins, etc. Now we can get safe, natural, healthy versions, and qualify to earn commissions for sharing them with others.
-
DO I NEED INVENTORY?No. In Doterra we simply purchase and use our own products. You can share samples from your own bottles, and use your own oils for doing classes or consultations. What we do is teach people how to use the oils, which ones would be best for their needs, and then help them set up their own account. Doterra handles orders, customer service, payment collection, and shipping.
-
DO I HAVE TO TEACH CLASSES?No. Classes are completely optional, but are the fastest and most effective way to grow your business.
-
HOW MUCH TIME WILL THIS TAKE?Sharing happens naturally in your day-to-day life. Just like you would recommend a movie or a restaurant to a friend. I integrate my business activities into my everyday life. The more time you put in, the more you will get out of it.
-
HOW MUCH CAN I EARN?It’s up to you. You can choose to earn just enough to cover the cost of your monthly essential oil order, supplement your income, help pay for some extra bills or debts, maybe save up for a vacation. Or you can choose to replace and multiply your existing income. If you’re interested in leaving your current job and doing Doterra full-time, you can do that. You can have a life of flexibility and freedom if you choose.
-
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO MAKE MONEY?The quickest way is through Fast Start Bonus, which is what you earn each time you help someone get started with their own Doterra account. The Fast Start bonus is 20% of whatever your new customer orders in their first 60 days. If they order a 100 PV enrollment kit, you would earn $20 on that. If they order another 100 PV the following month through the Loyalty Rewards Program, you would get another $20 on that. The Fast Start bonus pays out weekly from Doterra, and will show up in your Doterra account as a credit that you can use toward your order. You can earn unlimited Fast Starts – the more people you help get started with Doterra, the higher your Fast Start checks will be. After your new customer’s first 60 days, your commission will drop to a lower, residual percentage on anything they order. This percentage may not seem like much, but the more customers you have, the faster it adds up. This is your RESIDUAL income stream – the income that starts slow and grows month after month, and eventually will be the largest portion of your income.
-
IS IT A PYRAMID SCHEME?No. Pyramid schemes are illegal. Doterra is a Multi-Level Marketing company. One of the first decisions Doterra had to make was how to market their product. Instead of spending their money on advertising and overhead, they decided to invest that money into people like you and me.
-
WHAT IF I’M NOT A SALESPERSON?Perfect, you don’t have to be. Your job is to use the oils and share them. Just as you would pull a Tylenol out of your purse for someone who has a headache, you can just as easily pull out your bottle of peppermint and offer to share.
-
WHAT ELSE DOES MY MEMBERSHIP INCLUDE?You will get your own “Virtual Office” where you can track your business, your sales volume, your team, and your orders. You will be able to order products at wholesale price (25% off). You will also get a free personalized website where you can send people for more information, to shop, or enroll with their own account.
